Encounter With Giant Dragonfly

Dragonfly On Pampas Grass

Dragonfly On Pampas Grass

I was visiting my mom who lives near Kansas City, Kansas last summer and saw this dragonfly resting on a blade of pampas grass.

With my Canon Powershot A530 in hand, I made a stealthy approach to the winged insect and snapped several pictures, using the camera's automatic mode.

I was able to get the lens about 1 foot from the dragonfly without spooking it. Maybe it was just a ham and wanted its picture taken.

What a stunner!

Nice shot indeed Bill. He was obviously a star, just begging to be photographed.

In situations like this that Automatic feature on your digital camera is the ideal program to shoot in. By the time you had picked an aperture, set the white balance and changed over into macro mode the dragonfly could well have flown away.

The camera did a decent job of it too! A fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action, and a small enough aperture to blur the background.

Very nice shot. So what's next?
